NiceView Display Cover: A Thoughtful Solution

NiceView is a great display, but its fragility can be a concern. Accidental pressure can lead to failure—I personally broke one during testing, and a client reported a similar issue. While I’m unsure how many others have faced this, I decided to create a protective 3D-printed cover to reinforce the display and prevent future damage.

The Problem & Design Challenges

The previous acrylic cover design lacked support on the far end of the display, making it vulnerable to pressure. To fix this, I designed a 3D-printed cover that provides top-down protection, redistributing stress to prevent direct force from damaging the display.

Creating a reliable cover involved multiple challenges:

  1. Precisely aligning the cutout with the display.
  2. Ensuring a clean, seamless fit with the case.
  3. Working within the constraints of the existing keyboard structure.
  4. Accounting for material and printing tolerances.

Refining the Design with 3D Printing

Having my own 3D printer made a significant difference. With each test print, errors became immediately visible, allowing for quick refinements. This rapid iteration process helped perfect the cover’s fit, strength, and aesthetics without long waiting times.

Final Product & Attention to Detail

The design is now complete. While it may look simple, every detail took time and meticulous attention to perfect. The result is a cover that integrates seamlessly, protects the NiceView, and allows you to use it with ease and confidence.

I'll be sharing photos of the final product in this post. Let me know your thoughts—have you experienced similar issues with NiceView?
